Clinton to appear at Saddleback Church

Hillary Clinton is the only presidential candidate to confirm an appearance so far for the annual Global Summit on AIDS and the Church at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest. She’s set to speak Thursday afternoon. All of the leading candidates have been invited, and four have indicated that they’ll send prepared video instead of showing up in person.
Last year, Sens. Barack Obama and Sam Brownback spoke at the conference. There was some criticism levelled at the church because of Obama’s pro-abortion rights stance, but it was dismissed by the church pastor Rick Warren, who said the focus was to bring people from all political corners together in the battle against AIDS.

“Inviting politicians from different perspectives to the Summit is not a political decision – it is a humanitarian and Christian action,” said Warren in this press release on presidential candidates invited to the event. “When millions are dying each year, we’re interested in lives, not labels. We want everyone to become concerned about the AIDS pandemic.”
Here’s an updated tally of OC appearances by presidential candidates:
Rudolph Giuliani — Feb. 15, March 24, May 2, June 10, June 29, July 23 & 24, Aug. 22, Nov. 13
John McCain — May 2006, March 19, May 1, June 1, Sept. 7
Mitt Romney — Aug. 17, 2006, March 16, April 30, June 11, Sept. 23
Mike Huckabee — March 1, March 15, Oct. 22
Hillary Clinton — March 3, June 22, Nov. 29
Fred Thompson — May 4, July 31, Dec. 1
Barack Obama — Dec. 1, 2006, June 11
Tom Tancredo — June 15 & 16
Bill Richardson — March 14, Sept. 7
Dennis Kucinich — March 24, Oct. 19 & 20
Chris Dodd — Feb. 22
John Edwards — June 25, Oct. 19
Sam Brownback — June 27, Oct. 13
(Bill Clinton — June 24)

I love Saddleback church but I’m throughly disgusted with the idea that Hillary was given the right to speak. She comprises all the evil can conguer up. She’s pro-abortion, pro-gay, Immoral, decieving, a liar, and power hungry, her opinions are dictated by the polls. She filp flops and sets up questions in advance to be asked during her speaking tour. She’s far from a honest human being, she and BIll sold out this countries secrets for campaing contributions. She knew all long what Bill was doing and acted like she just learned the thruth about Bills adulterous encounters. Lie after Lie after Lie. She’s not worthy to address the congergation. She’s not a christian be any means of association. I’ll be there to picket her, join me and I hope a thousand others will. She’ll be a black eye to God’s truly loving and giving people. I love Rick, but what must he have been thing? This goes against all that he preaches. What’s Gods purpose for Hillary to plant the seeds of liberalism and socialism and communism. A life without God. Let’s question her believes because she has none, it’s all for show. 50% of this country dislike her and won’t vote for her and she’s invited to our church. Shame, Shame on her it’s a word she never learned. God help us if she ever becomes our President.

At first I was upset hearing that Hillary Clinton would be making an appearance at Saddleback Church, where I am a member. However, after reading that all the candidates were invited, it is clear that this is not as much political as it is humanitarian. Pastor Rick has said before that if we only worked cooperatively with people we agree with 100% of the time, we wouldn’t get very much accomplished. It is possible for Christians and non-Christians, Democrats and Republicans to work together in order to address the AIDS crisis, and work toward bettering the lives of those who struggle with this disease, both here in the U.S. and abroad.

Yeah!

Why is Ron Paul not on the updated appearances list?
I know he has some…so post them!

It is no more opportunistic than Hillary appointing former Republican, and Jonestown survivor Jackie Speirs on her presidential finance committee. The wing of Republicans did 900 black straight Christians in Guyana, is the same bunch that orchastrated both Waco and OKc. Is this more opportunistic? The only thing that will be more is when they start exterminating everybody they forced to give up their rightful place in the new economy!

I love Rick Warren but that does not mean I agree with him all the time. With so many social issues in this country I would much rather use my energy and resources locally than try to save the whole world, especially when most those you are trying to save are victims of their own irresponsible actions.

When I go to the Vote on the Hillary visit,
I do not show the responses for the other
choices. There seems to be a slanted reporting
of the results with only the “humanitarian”
showing responses. Please fix this so it shows all
the results. I was also told by someone at Oc
Register that there is to be a button that says
“view results” which I do not have. Something is
askew.

It may be a great time to ask if it is true the United States has a patent on both the disease and cure for AIDS! Then, maybe somehone could ask Hillary why the solar industry is valued at $5 billion, and is projected to reach $50 billion in the near future: does this sound like, to her, as a presidential contender, the dollar is weak?

I think it’s awesome that Hilary is coming to speak in Orange County. Believe it or not, almost 40% of voters in Orange County are Democrats and are really excited that Orange County has finally gained enough progressives to get attention from the left.

What is wrong with you people? You are all from the dark ages! This is how the political process works..let the woman come and talk and if you don’t want to hear what she says the nstay home with your head in the sand and your blinders on and never hear anything that might upset you, Just remember, this is the real world with real problems and at least this woman is trying to find solutions, even if you don’t agree with her politics. At least give her the credit for getting out there and trying which is more than I can say for most of the whiners on this blog

It is an unfortunate call on Rick’s part. Hillary of all candidates represents the opposite of what saddleback is attempting to accomlpish and is only looking for votes - nothing more!!

This is great. I’m hoping to go if I can make time. I’m convinced that Hillary had the experience and the tenacity to turn our country around.

hahaha. ron paul isn’t on the list because he is inconsequential. I personally would be excited if Hillary came to my church. It’s time Christianity became more than a 2 issue platform.

I would love to hear Hillary Clinton, too bad she’s not speaking at a more progressive church, like a Unitarian Universalist church! But at least she’s making the humanitarian effort. I’m glad Andrew is being more open-minded. Too bad this is not a free event, but costs $300… I hope all this money is going towards fighting AIDS.
